An Irish Ditty

Ah to be a violet again
dark and vibrant
snappy and sassy
with all the shamrocks in the neighborhood
chasing after me for a taste of
ale
and a bite of my
buttermilk and raisins.

I still have a bit o' the snap
in me
it's just my hair is white
and my stem leans a tad toward the ground.
But I'm easier to catch.

  7. Sheer delight - I nicked both picture and poem to combine, for personal pleasure of course.

  11. Snappy indeed! My high school students say "Snap..." whenever someone has just the perfect comeback!
    Snap!
You mentioned a play by Yeats involving a wishing well. My first thought was THE HOUR GLASS...then his poem, "Brown Penny."
    I really love his work.
